Photo Share: Feasting Finches

Photo from Anka Burns
Finches are having a tough time this spring. Instead of supplementing their diet with dandelion and grass seeds they are hitting the feeders hard. While most birds molt only in the fall, finches go through a complete molt two times a year.

Finding that extra energy to go through a complete molt in the spring means there has been a feeding frenzy at the feeders lately.

But pretty soon they will have all their black wing feathers and bright spring colors and will be winging through warm breezes.

Thank you for sharing! If anyone else would like to share a photograph of nature send it to bloubird@gmail.com with a description and permission to post it on the Friday Photo.
